Farouk
Farouk, or Faruk, (1920–1965), king of Egypt, 1936–52. Corrupt and showing little concern for the welfare of his people, Farouk was overthrown by a group of army officers led by Mohammed Naguib and Gamal Abdel Nasser. His son Ahmed Fuad was named king, but in 1953 Egypt was proclaimed a republic. Farouk was born in Cairo, the son of King Fuad I. He was twice married and twice divorced. After his abdication he lived in Europe, becoming a citizen of Monaco in 1959.
