Mandingo, or Malinké, a Negroid people of West Africa The Mandingos occupy much of the region between the Senegal and Niger rivers. They speak Mande, a language of the Niger-Congo group. In the 13th and 14th centuries the Mandingos ruled an empire called Mali.
