Geography of Cochabamba

Cochabamba,Bolivia, the capital of Cochabamba department. It lies on the eastern slope of the Andes, about 150 miles (240 km) southeast of La Paz. Cochabamba is a commercial and industrial center in an agricultural region. Agricultural products include cacao, coffee, fruits, grains, potatoes, sugarcane, and tobacco. Principal industries include food processing, oil refining, and vehicle assembly. A campus of the University of Bolivia is located in Cochabamba. The city was founded as Villa de Oropeza by the Spanish in 1574 and was given its present name in 1786.
