Geography of La Guaira
La Guaira, Venezuela, a city and a major seaport. As a port it serves primarily Caracas, the national capital, which lies some six miles (10 km) inland in the mountains. A railway and a superhighway connect the two cities. Just west of La Guaira is Maiquetía International Airport, an increasingly important international travel center in the Caribbean. La Guaira was founded in 1577.
