Aconcagua
Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere and one of the highest in the world. It rises 22,834 feet (6,960 m) above sea level in the Andes Mountains of west-central Argentina, near the Chilean border. The snow-clad upper slopes of Aconcagua, rising high above the general level of the surrounding peaks, can be seen from the Pacific coast of Chile, about 80 miles (130 km) away. The summit of Aconcagua was first reached in 1897, by Swiss climbers.
