Geography of Launceston

Launceston, Australia, the second largest city of Tasmania. It lies at the headwaters of the Tamar River. Its port can accommodate oceangoing vessels. Farm products, hardwood, oil, and gold are exported from here. The city has woolen mills, tin-smelting plants, sawmills, and pottery works. Launceston was founded in 1805.
