Geography of Muscat

Muscat, or Musqat, both mŭs′kăt, the capital of Oman, a sultanate on the Arabian Peninsula. It is on the Gulf of Oman and has a small port. The old town, site of the original settlement, is completely walled and has a medieval look. The sultan's palace is here. Near Muscat is Matrah, Oman's largest city and chief commercial center.
