Geography of Linz

Linz, Austria, the capital of Upper Austria Province. It is on the Danube River, 95 miles (153 km) west of Vienna. Linz is the third largest city in Austria. It has iron and steel works, shipyards, and factories producing textiles, machinery, fertilizer, chemicals, flour, and tobacco. Kepler University, founded in 1966, is in Linz. In Roman times Linz was known as Lentia. Adolf Hitler spent most of his childhood in or near Linz.
