Geography of Innsbruck
Innsbruck, Austria, the capital of Tyrol province. It lies on the Inn River in western Austria on the main transportation routes to the Brenner Pass. Flanked by the Alps, Innsbruck is a scenic year-round resort. It was the site of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympic Games. The city was founded in the 12th century. It was a favorite residence of Maximilian I and Maria Theresa; they built most of the prominent buildings.
