Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada, a mountain range in southern Spain, part of the Cordillera Penibética. It lies some 15 to 25 miles (24 to 40 km) north of the Mediterranean coast, extending eastward from the vicinity of Granada for about 50 miles (80 km). One of Spain's most rugged ranges, the Sierra Nevada has several peaks exceeding altitudes of 10,000 feet (3,000 m) above sea level. Snowcapped Mount Mulhacén, at 11,411 feet (3,478 m), is the highest peak in continental Spain.
