The Frisian Islands

Frisian Islands, a chain of small islands in the North Sea, close to the European mainland. The West Frisians belong to the Netherlands and the East Frisians to Germany; the North Frisians are divided between Denmark and Germany. Raising cattle and sheep and fishing are the main occupations. The islands are popular beach resorts in the summer. The island of Helgoland was formerly an important German naval base.
