Geography of Haiphong
Haiphong, Vietnam, a city on the Red River delta near the Gulf of Tonkin, 55 miles (90 km) east of Hanoi. Haiphong is a major port, handling most of northern Vietnam's imports and exports. It is also an industrial center, producing textiles, processed foods, cement, and ships.
Haiphong was a small fishing village when Vietnam came under control of the French in the 1880's. The French developed it as a port.
