Walvis Bay
Walvis Bay, Namibia, a port city about 150 miles (240 km) west of Windhoek, the national capital. Shipping, fishing, and fish processing are the chief industries. Walvis Bay and the surrounding region were annexed by Great Britain in 1878 and made a part of Cape Colony in 1884. In 1910 Walvis Bay was incorporated into the Union of South Africa and remained a South African enclave until 1994, when control was transferred to Namibia.
