Lake Tana

Tana, Lake, the largest lake in Ethiopia. It lies in the northwestern highlands at an elevation of 5,856 feet (1,785 m), and is the source of the Blue Nile, called the Abbay in Ethiopia. The area of the lake is about 1,400 square miles (3,600 km2); its depth is generally less than 50 feet (15 m).
