Turbot
Turbot, a flatfish found along the west coast of Europe and in the Black and Mediterranean seas. Turbots are usually from 27 to 35 inches (69 to 89 cm) long and weigh 30 pounds (14 kg) or more. The body is flattened from top to bottom, and is brownish above and white below. The turbot has no scales, but numerous bony knobs cover its upper surface. It swims with the white side down. Both eyes are located on the upper side. The turbot is highly esteemed as food.
The turbot is Scophthalmus maximus of the family Pleuronectidae.
