Diffusion (optics)
Diffusion, in optics, the scattering of light, as when it is reflected from a rough surface or when it passes through a translucent material. A common application is the use of frosted glass (a translucent material) for light bulbs, to reduce glare. Diffusion is also used in photography, to soften harsh shadows.
