Hydroxide: Properties, Uses, and Chemical Behavior

Hydroxide

Hydroxide

Hydroxide, a chemical compound that contains the hydroxyl radical (OH-)—an oxygen atom and a hydrogen atom that act as a single unit. Most hydroxides of metals are bases; most hydroxides of nonmetals are acids. Amphoteric hydroxides can act as either bases or acids. Hydroxides are used mainly to make other chemical, soap, and petroleum products.
