Ethyl

Ethyl

Ethyl, a hydrocarbon radical (a combination of atoms of carbon and hydrogen that can be regarded as a single atom in chemical changes). Ethyl occurs in many compounds, including ethyl alcohol (also known as ethanol and grain alcohol) and ether. The trade name Ethyl refers to the ethyl compound tetraethyl lead, one of the compounds used to make leaded gasoline.

The ethyl radical is C2H5, or CH3CH2.
