Sergeant at Arms

Sergeant at Arms, the officer of an organization who preserves order during its meetings. A sergeant at arms functions mainly at formal gatherings, where he enforces rules of procedure; in a legislative body he also enforces executive commands. Both houses of the U.S. Congress have a sergeant at arms, as do both houses of the British Parliament.
