Winterberry
Winterberry, a North American shrub of the holly family that grows east of the Mississippi River. During the winter, the bright red berries of certain species are used in homes as decorations. Winterberry shrubs grow to a height of 25 feet (8 m), usually in low, marshy places. They shed their leaves in autumn.
Species include inkberry, Ilex glabra; smooth winterberry, I. laevigata; and common winterberry. I. verticillata. Winterberries belong to the family Aquifoliaceae.
