Mangosteen

Mangosteen, a tropical fruit tree of southeastern Asia and Indonesia. The tree grows about 30 feet (9 m) tall. It has handsome, dark-green leaves and rose-pink flowers about 1 ½ inches (38 mm) across. The globe-shaped fruit, about 2 ½ inches (64 mm) in diameter, has a dark reddish-purple rind. The flesh of the delicious fruit is divided into segments much like those of an orange.

The mangosteen is Garcinia mangostana of the family Guttiferae.
