DuBridge, Lee A.

DuBridge, Lee A. (Alvin) (1901-1994), a United States physicist and educator. As head of the Radiation Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology during World War II, DuBridge helped develop such electronic devices as radar bomb sights and the GCA (ground-controlled approach) landing system for airplanes. He was president of California Institute of Technology, 1946-68, and science adviser to President Nixon, 1968-70.

DuBridge was born in Terre Haute, Indiana. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin and taught at Washington University, St. Louis, 1928-34. He was professor of physics at the University of Rochester, 1934-46.
