Understanding HDL Cholesterol: What's a Healthy Level?

What does my HDL cholesterol level mean?

What does my HDL cholesterol level mean?

Unlike total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, you want your HDL cholesterol - the good cholesterol - to be as high as possible. An HDL level of less than 40 mg/dL is considered a major risk factor for heart disease. The higher your HDL level is, the lower your risk of heart disease. An HDL of 60 mg/dL or more is considered a negative risk factor. This means it helps to offset risk factors and to protect you from heart disease.
