What blood pressure tests might I need?
To help in your diagnosis, your doctor probably may run tests on your blood, heart, and urine. Your doctor will do tests for the following reasons:
- to find a clue to a specific cause of your high blood pressure
- to assess whether any of your organs, such as your kidneys, have been damaged by high blood pressure
- to find out if you have other risk factors for heart disease or disorders that may influence your treatment
See the following pages to learn more about the test your doctor ordered:
- urinalysis
- complete blood count, called a CBC for short
- blood chemistry
- electrocardiogram, called an EKG or an ECG for short
- other tests
