Partisans
Partisans, or Partizans, both, another term for guerrillas, especially those who are fighting an invading or occupying foreign army. In the American Revolutionary War, various irregular forces under Francis Marion, Andrew Pickens, and Thomas Sumter were called partisans. In Europe, during World War II, irregulars resisting Nazi occupying forces were also called partisans. Especially well known were Tito's Partisans, who fought the Germans in Yugoslavia.
