Robert A Bartlett
Bartlett, Robert Abram (1875-1946), a United States Arctic explorer. He was born in Newfoundland. His first northern voyage was with Robert E. Peary, in 1897. He sailed again with Peary in 1905-06 and 1908-09, when Peary finally reached the North Pole. In 1913 Bartlett commanded the Karluk in a Canadian expedition headed by Vilhjalmur Stefansson. His ship became frozen in the ice off Alaska and drifted until crushed near Siberia. Bartlett managed to get help and rescue the survivors. He continued to make Arctic trips for many years.
