Paul A. Siple
Siple, Paul A. (Allman) (1908–1968), a United States explorer, geographer, and biologist. He distinguished himself as an authority on climatology and the problems of subfreezing environments. As a member of the Byrd Antarctic expeditions and as director of American scientific investigations for the 1957 International Geophysical Year, he spent six years in the South Polar regions, more than anyone else.
Siple was born in Montpelier, Ohio. He graduated from Allegheny College, Pennsylvania, in 1932 and received a Ph.D. from Clark University. From 1946 until his death, he was involved in scientific activities for the United States government.
