Kutenai
Kutenai, Kootenay , or Kootenai a tribe of Indians usually considered to form a distinct language family. Some scholars, however, relate them to the Algonquian and Salishan groups.
The Kutenai lived on both sides of what became the boundary between British Columbia and Washington, and gave their name to the Kootenay River, Kootenay Lake, and Kootenai Mountains. There were two large divisions—the Upper Kutenai, who were largely buffalo hunters, and the Lower Kutenai, mostly fishermen.
