Uncas

Uncas, (1588?–1682?), a chief of the Mohegan Indians. He quarreled with his father-in-law, Sassacus, chief of the Pequots, and aided colonists in their defeat of the Pequots (1637) and in King Philip's War (1675–76). Uncas captured and killed Miantonomo, chief of the Narragansets (1643). A fictional Uncas was a hero of James Fenimore Cooper's The Last of the Mohicans.
