Mari Sandoz
Sandoz, Mari (1901–1966), a United States author. She wrote biographies, histories, and novels dealing mainly with inhabitants of the Great Plains in the 19th century. Her first book, Old Jules (1935), a biography of her Swiss immigrant father, won her critical praise and wide recognition. Miss Sandoz was born in Sheridan County, Nebraska, and attended the University of Nebraska.
Other nonfiction: Crazy Horse (1942); Cheyenne Autumn (1953); The Buffalo Hunters (1954); The Cattlemen (1958); Love Song to the Plains (1961); and The Battle of the Little Bighorn (1966). Among her novels are Slogum House (1937); The Tom-Walker (1947); and The Horsecatcher (1957). Sandhill Sundays and Other Recollections (1970) contains autobiographical sketches.
