Ernest Augustus
Ernest Augustus (1771-1851), first king of Hanover. He was the fifth son of King George III of England and was created duke of Cumberland in 1799. He became king of Hanover when the English and Hanoverian crowns were separated at the accession of Victoria to the throne of England in 1837. Ernest Augustus was succeeded by his son George.
