Shah Jahan

Shah Jahan or Jehan, (1592–1666), an Indian emperor of the Mogul dynasty, reigned 1628–58 Considered one of the great Mogul emperors, he was most noted for the construction of many magnificent buildings, including the Taj Mahal. During his 30-year reign, Shah Jahan extended Mogul rule southward into the Deccan. He was overthrown by his son Aurangzeb in 1658 and spent his remaining years in prison.
