Babur

Babur, or Baber (1483–1530), the founder of the Mogul Empire of India. He was a descendant of the Mongol emperor Genghis Khan and Tamerlane, a Tatar. At the age of 11, he succeeded his father as king of the Central Asian principality of Fergana.

In 1504 Babur captured Kabul and established a kingdom in Afghanistan. After several years of raids on northern India, he invaded the region in 1525 and at the Battle of Panapat defeated the Sultan of Delhi's much larger force. He occupied Delhi and established the Mogul (Mongol) Empire in 1526. With victories at the Battle of Khanua in 1527 and at the Battle of the Gogra River in 1529, Babur conquered all of northern India.
