The Bering Sea
Bering Sea, an arm of the Pacific Ocean between Alaska and Siberia, north of the Aleutian and Komandorskiye islands. It covers about 880,000 square miles (2,280,000 km2). In the north, the Bering Sea is connected to the Chukchi Sea by the Bering Strait. During most of the year the sea is covered by fogs. In the winter, sea ice and ice floes are common. Fishing and whaling are carried on in the Bering Sea.
