Geography of Novi Sad

Novi Sad, Serbia and Montenegro, the capital of the Vojvodina province in Serbia. It lies on the Danube River, 45 miles (72 km) northwest of Belgrade, and is the region's chief commercial and industrial center. The University of Novi Sad (established in 1960) is here. Novi Sad dates from the 16th century and was made a royal free city of Hungary in 1748. After World War I it was made part of Serbia.
