Geography of Leghorn

Leghorn (Italian: Livorno, Italy, the capital of Leghorn province, Tuscany. The city is on the Ligurian Sea, about 155 miles (250 km) northwest of Rome. Leghorn is a commercial and industrial center, a seaside resort, and one of the chief Italian ports. The Naval Academy of Italy is nearby. Leghorn was an obscure fishing village until late in the 16th century. Beginning in the 1570's it was developed by the Medici family of Florence as the chief port of Tuscany.
