Geography of Tirane

Tiranë, Albania, the capital and largest city. It is in west-central Albania, 19 miles (31 km) from the Adriatic port of Durrës. Tiranë is the manufacturing center of Albania, producing processed foods, textiles, cigarettes, and agricultural machinery. A railway connects Tiranë with the coast. A university and an institute of sciences are here. The city was founded by the Turks in the 17th century. It was made Albania's capital in 1920.
