Geography of Gaillard Cut

Gaillard Cut, the most deeply excavated portion of the Panama Canal. It is nearly eight miles (13 km) in length and connects two inland lakes. It is named for David Du Bose Gaillard (1859-1913), who was in charge of its construction.
