Geography of Halmahera

Halmahera, the largest island of the Moluccas (Spice Islands) of Indonesia. It lies between the Molucca Sea and the Pacific Ocean, 200 miles (320 km) northwest of New Guinea. The area is 6,870 square miles (17,793 km2). The island is largely mountainous and has several active volcanoes.

Population: about 120,000.
