Mount Elgon
Elgon, Mount, an extinct volcanic cone northeast of Lake Victoria, on the Uganda-Kenya border in Africa. Mount Elgon rises to 14,178 feet (4,321 m). The crater is about five miles (8 km) across and nearly 2,000 feet (610 m) deep. Coffee is grown on its slopes. Mount Elgon was first scaled in 1911 by two Austrians.
