1976 NASCAR Winston Cup Results
The exciting 1976 NASCAR Winston Cup season included a Daytona 500 race with the most stunning finish in Winston Cup history. Richard Petty and David Pearson, two of NASCAR's most revered icons, traded leads four times in the final lap and got tangled off the fourth turn. In the end, David Pearson got his Mercury straightened out and creeped across the finish line at 20 mph. Speedway. Pearson finished third in the event, which
was won by Darrell Waltrip. Pearson enjoyed a
remarkable season in 1976, winning 10 of 22 starts.
Despite missing eight of the 30 NASCAR Winston Cup
Grand National races, Pearson still finished ninth
