1991 NASCAR Winston Cup Results
The 1991 NASCAR Winston Cup season added yet another championship to the sparkling portfolio of Dale Earnhardt. He took the points lead in early May and never looked back. Earnhardt won four times during the 1991 NASCAR Winston Cup season, finishing a comfortable 195 points ahead of runner-up Ricky Rudd. Veteran Harry Gant also created lots of fireworks in 1991. The 51-year-old driver won four straight races during the month of September. Ernie Irvan passes the checkered flag to win the
Daytona 500. Irvan stole the lead from Earnhardt with
six laps to go, but was low on fuel. When Earnhardt
crashed a lap later, Irvan drove around the flat apron
of the track for the last few laps to conserve.
