Attracting Bats
Once considered repugnant by most people, bats have gained a much better reputation as their role as bug control agents has become recognized. If you wish to lure bats, consider erecting a bat house. It will be easier to attract them if they are already living in your area and if there is a pond or a lake close by. Set the house out of reach of predators, at least 10 to 20 feet (3 to 6 m) above ground and facing southeast. Try to position it so that there is an unobstructed flight path approaching it that is at least 3 feet (1 m) in length. Once you have installed the house, be patient; months or even years may pass before bats begin using it.
