Capuchin, or Sopajou, a South American monkey. Above its eyes is a hoodlike growth of fur that resembles a monk's cowl. Capuchins are popular as pets and trained performers. In northern South America they are notorious chicken thieves and orchard raiders.

The common capuchin is Cebus capucinus of the family Cebidae.
