Black
Black, the lack of color. When light strikes an object, all light waves are absorbed except those of the color of the object. These waves are reflected to the eye. In the case of a black object, all the light waves are absorbed and none reflected. This total absorption is theoretical, however, for some light is usually reflected from black, though less than from any color. In mixing pigments, black can be produced by combining equal parts of each of the pigment primary colors, that is, magenta, yellow, and cyan.
In Europe and America, black is the symbol of sorrow and mourning. It also symbolizes the spiritual life, and for this reason is worn by those who dedicate their lives to religion.
