Methyl, an organic chemical radical consisting of one carbon atom and three hydrogen atoms. (A radical is a group of atoms of two or more different elements that behaves like a single atom in many chemical reactions.) Methyl occurs in compounds such as methyl alcohol, a poisonous liquid used in the production of formaldehyde and automotive antifreeze.
