Hydrogen Iodide (HI): Properties, Uses & Chemical Formula

Hydrogen Iodide

Hydrogen Iodide

Hydrogen Iodide, a compound of hydrogen and iodine. It is a heavy, colorless gas with a sharp odor. It fumes in moist air. The gas dissolves easily in water to form hydriodic acid—a strong corrosive used as a disinfectant and in making drugs. Hydrogen iodide is usually made by using a catalyst to unite hydrogen and iodine, or by adding water to an iodine-phosphorus mixture.

Chemical formula: HI.
