Rose of Jericho: The Resurrection Plant - Care & Symbolism

Rose of Jericho

Rose of Jericho

Rose of Jericho, a desert plant of western Asia. The plant grows about six inches (15 cm) high. When the seeds are ripe, the branches fold into a ball, and the stem breaks at the ground. If blown to a wet spot by the wind, the plant unfolds and releases the seeds. Even after being kept dry for years, the plant will open when placed in water. For this reason it is called a resurrection plant.

Rose of Jericho is Anastatica hierochuntica of the mustard family, Cruciferae.
