Compass Plant, a large prairie plant of the midwestern United States. It is so named because the lower leaves tend to point approximately north and south. The plant is perennial. It grows 3 to 10 feet (90 cm to 3 m) tall and has a resinous juice. The blossoms resemble those of a sunflower.

The compass plant is Silphium laciniatum, a rosinweed of the family Compositae.
