Angstrom, Anders Jonas
Angstrom, Anders Jonas (1814-1874), a Swedish physicist. Angstrom made a detailed map of the sun's spectrum. He discovered hydrogen in the sun's atmosphere and was the first to study the spectrum of the aurora borealis. The angstrom, a unit used in measuring the length of light waves, was named in his honor. He attended the University of Uppsala, then taught there for 35 years.
